Gloeocapsa

Gloeocapsa is a genus of colonial, non-filamentous cyanobacteria. Members of the genus Gloeocapsa typically do not have specialized cells nor a set number of cells; they are seen in colonies, but may also be unicellular. The cells are held together and protected by a thick mucilaginous sheath.
