Evolutionary Traits

A trait is any characteristic of an organism that appears through evolution and is inherited via natural selection and reproduction. A trait may be a shared ancestral trait or shared derived trait.

On a phylogeny, the arisal of an evolutionary trait is denoted by a hatch mark on its respective branch.
