Carpels

A carpel is an organ that contains various “female” reproductive structures in an angiosperm flower. The carpel consists of the stigma, style, and a large ovary, the latter of which contains ovules with eggs that may be fertilized by pollen.

A carpel denotes a single larger structure that houses several reproductive structures within. A pistil may consist of one or more of these carpels that were fused together.
